Job Purpose
We’re looking for a friendly, reliable and enthusiastic café all-rounder to join our team on a casual basis.
This is a varied role covering both kitchen and front-of-house duties. We’re ideally looking for someone who is confident and happy working across both areas, although we’d also love to hear from applicants with strong experience in either cooking or front of house.

Key Accountabilities
Cooking Duties
- To support people to prepare a menu of hot and cold food, snacks, drinks and other café items.
- To prepare a menu’s and ordering of food within set budget parameters using approved suppliers to achieve a high quality of food and presentation at all times.
- To change the menu’s on a regular basis at least seasonally
- To prepare meals for people with additional dietary requirements including diabetics, PKU diets, blended meals and allergies as a minimum.
- To ensure all food orders are requested with ample time while working under an agreed budget
- To ensure all meals are ready in a timely manner
- To oversee the smooth running of the kitchen
People
- To support and empower people to achieve their goals and ambitions in line with their Vocational Profiles.
- Work closely with colleagues including the Employability Coach to offer outcome based support.
General
- To attend and participate in staff meetings and attend all mandatory training when required
- To attend supervision and appraisals ensuring that you have prepared for these when required
- To attend any other training when a need has been identified
- To communicate effectively with other staff, relatives and visitors
- To wear appropriate clothing provided for working in the Kitchen
- To keep all records of cleaning work completed after each shift in the appropriate book
- Handle cash and card transactions through the till and reconcile these daily
- Keep accurate records of meals prepared.
Health and Safety
- To ensure that you work in a safe environment in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- To assist in the maintenance of a Safe and Healthy Working environment by understanding and ensuring adherence to Health and Safety Policy and Procedures including Fire
- To take responsibility for your own health and safety and that of others who may be in the kitchen
- To ensure that all COSHH records are maintained and updated when necessary
- To be fully aware and comply with infection control policies and procedures and appropriate hand hygiene technique
- To ensure that the kitchen is hygienically clean at all times
- To report any faults/defects in the Kitchen to the appropriate person.
- To be fully aware of the fire policy and the awareness of food hygiene regulations
- To ensure you are familiar with all current policies and procedures and understand your duty to comply and implement them when necessary
- To ensure all food returned to the fridge is stored appropriately
- To ensure appropriate kitchen protocol is maintained
Other
- Adhere to and maintain Hft’s Health and Safety policies, standards and guidelines at all times
- Carry out a range of duties and undertake any other duties as specified from time to time in accordance with Hft business requirements
- It is the nature of the work that task responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All employees are therefore expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises in order that tasks which are not specifically covered in their job description are covered
